Raiders Advance to Semi-Finals

The St. Albert Midget AAA Raiders are on their way to the semi-finals. The boys from St. Albert defeated Beardy's Blackhawks 6-5.

St. Albert opened the scoring with Kyler Hehn putting one past Beardy’s net minder Brett Lewchuk six minutes into the game. Hehn scored his second of the period to put St. Albert up 2-0.  The second frame saw more from St. Albert with Luc Lalor and Joey Berget scoring just 35 seconds apart to put the Raiders up 4-0 three minutes into the second.  Beardy’s would then make a change in goal as Lewchuk allowed 4 goals on just 13 shots. He was replaced by Regan Santoro.

The change seemed to spark the Blackhawks and with 5:01 left in the second, Brett Boehm scored on the power play to get Beardy’s on the board.  Early in the 3rd, the Blackhawks scored their second goal against Wyatt Hoflin, who faced a total of 21 shots in the game.  The Hawks added another for the Blackhawks short-handed to cut the lead to 4-3.

The Raiders Kevin Miller then tallied back-to-back goals making it 6-3 with 6:46 to play.
Brett Boehm scored his second after he was hauled down on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot with just under six minutes to play.  Beardy's added a late goal but St. Albert held on to the 6-5 win.

The St. Albert Sports Raiders will play Russia Severstal/Locomotiv in the second semi final game of the day which takes place at 6pm this evening at Max Bell centre.

Raiders perfect at MACs

The St. Albert Midget AAA Raiders are a perfect 4-0 after round robin play at the MACs Midget Tournament in Calgary.

Yesterday, the Raiders defeated the Calgary Royals 3-2 and followed up today with a 10-1 thrashing of the West Valley Hawks.

Kevin Miller, Ty Stanton and Kyler Hehn also recorded assists. Wyatt Hoflin stopped 27 shots to record his 3rd victory of the tournament. Mitch McNamara was named game star.

The St. Albert Sports Raiders scored 4 power play goals in the 1st period. The Raiders took an early lead two minutes into the game with a goal from assistant captain Connor Dea.  Trace Elson then added an unassisted goal followed by Mitch McNamara’s goal putting St. Albert up 3-0 within the first few minutes. A goaltending change for the Hawks did not resolve the issue. An even strength goal by Kyler Hehn, his second point of the game, extended the Raiders lead.  The 1st period ended with yet another power play goal from Ty Stanton resulting in a 5-0 Raiders. The Raiders potted three more goals in the second period including Mitch McNamara’s second of the game.  Thomas Foster and Trace Elson counted 3rd period markers to round out the scoring. Landow Bow stopped 17 of 18 shots he faced.

Kyler Hehn was named game star, scoring 1 goal and adding 3 assists.

The St. Albert Raiders concluded their round robin portion of the tournament with a perfect 4-0-0 record.
